La Paz, BCS
We reached La Paz in late afternoon. The area surrounding the capital of the State of Baja California Sur (BCS) was in stark contrast to the rural setting that we had seen until then: garbage, particularly plastic bags, lined the highway and littered the otherwise rather nice Desert landscape, but above all he aroused visions of dead sea animals to do it amicably accidentally when the wind once it has worn into the sea.
We were looking for a bay in the north of the peninsula Pichilingue that we approve of their description in the guide to best . When we arrived in Puerto Balandra , the parking was full almost to the last place, the bay is still full of bathers, but you could see that many of them were on break. The Sunday trip was to a close. So we grabbed a few things to eat, took a picnic on the beach and until we were finished, we had this practically alone even for us. After we had considered an expert, where our tent would be safe from the rising sea level, we built on it. Until then, it was dark and we went to sleep.
Now I belong to the species of the Sleepless and why it took me a while to get that ever took place and even then I woke up frequently and looked after the stars and their reflection in the water. And I was always the sound of the waves lulled back to sleep. When I once again woke up and looked at the stars, I noticed that something was different. It seemed to be late, because it was somehow darker than before. As I looked around, I noticed that the Spielgelbild had disappeared the night sky in the bay. Or rather, the whole bay was gone. ! That's what I was missing was: The gushing was now aroused my curiosity. I grabbed the flashlight and peeled myself out of the tent. And then I went in search of the sea ... deep into the bay, had swum in the afternoon as many people. Not a drop of water was more of it left! I went on and on to a rock around which divides the bay into two ... also because - Weit und breit kein Wasser in Sicht.

As part of the case of insomnia, sleep was to wait and even once succumbed to his right, I stayed there i never long, waking up frequently. And every time I looked at the stars and their reflection in the water of the bay with gentle lapping sleep soon. When I woke up again and I raised my eyes to the sky I felt that something was different. It would be late because the night seemed darker to me. When I turned my eyes to see the reflection of stars in the bay I realized that it had disappeared. That was missing: the splashing! Now even my curiosity was piqued. I pogne the flashlight and I went in search of the sea ... I plunged into the bay in which people, even a few hours ago, were bathed themselves. Not a single drop of water remained there! I walked and walked, I walked around a rock that separates the bay into two, again: no water loss de vue.

Suddenly I fell like shooting stars from the Heaven! tsunami, as was the tsunami that time, in Thailand, since all the little kids were out on the beach because the sea was gone and then she came the great wave and swept them all. After that it was for weeks in the newspapers as a warning for a tsunami. Recently, when the earthquake in Chile was, some people have escaped from certain death, because they had just identified this Vorzweichen and go to higher ground. In the Gulf of California runs a fault line. We have not heard any more news would be more, not even to date on a possible Erdeben that had just piled here in Mexico in recent times ... !
Après c'était, in the newspapers for weeks, as a sign of foreboding for a tsunami. It was not long ago, during the earthquake in Chile, there were people who escaped certain death by recognizing that sign and moving to places with higher altitude. There is a flaw in the Gulf of California. We have not heard news for some time, do so would not know if there had been an earthquake, so frequent lately here in Mexico ...!
Mein Herz sehr schnell klopfte, als ich mich auf den Weg zum Zelt zurück und macht dabei gleich die Rocks that frame the bay, close inspection to identify a possible escape route. But even in an emergency because I would have done is not high, especially in the noise of the tsunami wave ear! I crawled back into the tent and woke Benoit him to indicate his precarious, life-threatening situation. But the system was the matter, he simply wanted more sleep and tried to put off that it was just low tide. But I did not let up and we went together again in search of the vanished sea. Although this second trip was unsuccessful, was none of my scientific arguments fell on fertile ground but he immediately returned to asleep while I sat there, stiff as a stick, with ears pricked and ready for flight, and tried to put order into my thoughts: When the wave comes, then we're gone. No one knows we are here. When the wave sloshes up to the parking lot, which is quite possible, then also the last opportunity to identify the ever fallen into the water. Our children are in Canada. The white in Mexico, none. Mexico appeared far as chaotic, which determined no early warning systems, and if so, they will probably not work. And if so, at least here there is no siren ... ohgottohgottohgott!
The heart in full swing, I put on the way back, peering in through the rocks surrounding the bay to discern an emergency exit. Even in an emergency I would not have been able to go up, especially not with the roar of the tsunami wave in the ear. I entered the tent to wake Benoit to warn him of his precarious and dangerous situation. But he flatly did not care that do not wish to continue to sleep and tried to calm me down saying it was only the low tide. But I yielded not and so we went together again, in search of lost sea. Despite the failure this second trip, none of my scientific arguments did not fall on fertile ground and back into the tent it was he who once fell into a deep sleep while I remained seated then stiff, ears outstretched, ready to m run away and trying to bring order into the thoughts: If the wave arrives, we will be screwed. Nobody knows we're here. If the tide rises to the parking lot, the last evidence of human presence disappears with it. Our children are in Canada. Here in Mexico, nobody knows.
Then suddenly came to me the idea. is in the bay next door, the ferry terminal for the ferry to La Paz to the mainland. The determined to get a warning. And the wahtrscheinich know also that there is at parking a street trader who sells coconuts and pineapple. Maybe they come here so quickly rushed in a car und sagen Bescheid.
Suddenly I had this idea: At the nearby bay, there is the station of the ferry that links La Paz to the mainland. They will certainly be notified. And they certainly know that there is this street vendor coconut and pineapple on the beach here and maybe they will take a turn for the warning. And that's where I went to bed and fell asleep. End of nightmare.
When I awoke the next morning, the sea came slowly back. When I wanted to refresh myself after breakfast in it, I realized that the bay was very shallow and that the people who seemed to float on the day before it had probably been sitting on the sea bottom. We snorkeled a bit and then we make our way to civilization!
A small tour snorkel and then en route to civilization!
